Among the $1.9 million in repairs this summer, the New Bloomfield School District will pave some of their unpaved roadways.

Improving test scores and facilities were discussed at the school board meeting for New Bloomfield on Thursday night.

Susan Dudley, assistant principal of New Bloomfield Middle School, said test scores were up.

"The scores are doing well, and we are pleased with them," she said. "We found that our scores are very tightly correlated with the grades in the classroom, which is a good indicator for tracking progress during the year."

Dudley said in an effort to improve future scores, district officials plan on further reviewing the test scores to help the teachers recognize where students may struggle.

"When we get the reports back, we'll spend time analyzing the data with the teachers," she said. "This will help us pinpoint where the students need to work."

The board also extensively discussed the upcoming district-wide $1.9 million renovations.

"We're doing some remodeling," said David Tramel, superintendent of the district. "Curb appeal is going to be so much different."

This summer, the school district will upgrade its roof, windows and doors, repave parking lots, update bathrooms, upgrade electrical wiring and add more access points for internet connectivity.

"Even with all the changes, it still leaves us $270,000 in the bank," Tramel said. "It looks like a ton of stuff, and it's within what we expected. They're big numbers."

The improvements have been incredibly time consuming for district officials, but Tramel is optimistic about the results.

"It's monopolizing a lot of my time," he said with a smile. "But it's exciting; I think it's going to be a really noticeable difference."
