Battle of the Brews, a beer festival benefiting three area causes, will be back for the second year at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday.

Hosted by Leadership Jefferson City - a Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce program, the event will feature about 100 different beers for tasting. Patrons can participate in people's choice voting, casting votes for their favorite beers at $1 each.

Last year, Battle of the Brews raised about $14,000, which was divided among the Samaritan Center, Special Olympics of Missouri and a McClung Park project.

Derrijk Hollon, beer chair, said organizers are hoping to surpass the 2015 total and bring in at least $15,000.

Recognizable names include Schlafly, Four Hands and Logboat. The Jefferson City microbrewery Prison Brews will also have its beer available. More beers will be on tap for sampling, and the number of home brewers at the event has increased substantially, he said.

"We're making it bigger and better," Hollon said.

Chef Johnny Graham's Revel Catering will provide food for the evening. The Bobbie Showers Band is providing the musical entertainment.

There will also be a silent auction and a drawing for $250 worth of beer. Every vote in the people's choice voting counts as an entry into the raffle for the beer.

Tickets are $25 each at the door. Advance tickets are on sale at the chamber, 213 Adams St., for $20.
