Lawmen: Fulton man found fatally shot in Johnson County

Lawmen were waiting for final confirmation of the identity of a Fulton man found dead along a road in Johnson County, according to Warrensburg Police Chief Rich Lockhart, spokesman for the Rural Major Case Squad.

"We have a Missouri identification card, but we have to ID him through fingerprints," Lockhart said. "He in autopsy in Kansas City (Jackson County) right now."

A Lafayette County sheriff's deputy was dispatched at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a man lying in the road, in the 1260 block of Northeast 1075 Road, near Dunksburg bridge. The deputy located the body of a 48-year-old man who appeared to have been fatally shot.

The body was actually in Johnson County, and that sheriff's department was notified and conducted the initial crime scene investigation with the help of the Missouri Highway Patrol, Lockhart said.

Johnson County Sheriff Scott Munsterman activated the Rural Major Case Squad, which joined the investigation Thursday morning.

Lockhart said investigators were following leads. People with information may call the squad at 660-238-0902.
