Sales tax receipts exceed projections

For the second month in a row, Jefferson City's sales taxes have exceeded projections in all three categories.
July sales tax receipts, which reflect the May reporting period, show the city's 1 percent general sales tax came in $6,190 above projections and is $419,874 above projections for the year.
The half-cent capital improvement sales tax came in $9,735 above projections and is $229,323 above projections for the year.
The half-cent parks sales tax came in $9,815 above projections and is $231,275 above projections for the year.
At the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting Tuesday, Todd Spalding, department director, said revenues have continued to outpace projections, which could help the department's fund balance and be used to better furnish the planned Wellness Center being constructed on Lafayette Street.
"I feel good about where our revenues are headed," Spalding said.
Sales tax projections are based on actual receipts averaged over the last two years.
The city's revenue forecast model is projecting a year-end surplus of roughly $890,000, though that number will likely fluctuate throughout the year as more data become available.
