Weapons, other stolen property recovered

Nine stolen firearms were among numerous stolen items recovered Saturday morning in Henley, Cole County Sheriff Greg White said.

And two people - a man, 21, and a woman, 17 - were arrested. But, White said, their names won't be released until prosecutors file formal charges.

The warrant was issued and served "in regard to items stolen from vehicles in Holts Summit, Jefferson City and the rest of Cole County at large," White said. "The work reflects the cooperation between the Office of Sheriff and the Jefferson City Police Department."

White gave special thanks to sheriff's Deputy Detective Sgt. Kevin Woodson and police Detective Jason Ambler.

Of the nine firearms, White said, one had been stolen from Jefferson City, five from other parts of Cole County and three were from Holts Summit.

"We are thankful to have taken nine stolen firearms off the streets," he said. "Detectives will be contacting victims of thefts from their vehicles, during the following days, to verify ownership."

White added: "Law enforcement works best when agencies work well together. I extend thanks to Detective Ambler and (Police) Chief (Roger) Schroeder."

He also thanked the sheriff's deputies for executing the search warrant and securing the residence while detectives recovered stolen property during the search.

White encouraged all citizens to remain vigilant.

"Whether it is crime or terrorism, to quote Homeland Security, 'If you see something, say something,'" the sheriff said.

Officials previously have urged people to keep their car doors locked.

Many of the thefts from vehicles in the past year or so have come from unlocked vehicles they have said.
