Tebbetts man arrested by Callaway County deputies

A Tebbetts man arrested Wednesday was jailed with no bond awaiting a court appearance, according to Sgt. Curtis Hall of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Darren L. Schrimpf, 38, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (felon in possession), unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to Hall, deputies responded to a report of shots fired at 8:57 p.m. Wednesday in the 10000 block of State Road BB near Tebbetts. 

A suspect vehicle description was obtained, and at 9:12 p.m., a deputy located and stopped the vehicle on State Road BB near U.S. 54, south of Fulton.

Schrimpf was determined to be the driver, and during the course of the traffic stop, a felony level amount of methamphetamine and a firearm were located. A child was in the vehicle.

Schrimpf was arrested and transported to the Callaway County Jail for related charges. Charges were filed Thursday by the Callaway County Prosecutor's Office

Hall stated according to Case.net, a public resource, Schrimpf has a previous felony conviction for receiving stolen property - thus, it is illegal for Schrimpf to possess a firearm under both state and federal law. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be forthcoming.
