A messy affair

An event for wee children Monday at the public library in Fulton was not as messy as advertised.

"Dress For A Mess" had Playdough and glue sticks, but the children involved were plenty adept at getting sparkles on their Santa ornaments and frosting on their "assembly required" marshmallow Frosty the Snowmen.

The potential for mess, however, was still there.

"This is the stuff you wouldn't do at home," Julie Murphy, children's associate at Callaway County library, told a visitor. "It'll vacuum right up."

Normally, Murphy and Jerilyn Hahn, children's librarian, have a story time on Monday mornings, except for the month of December. To celebrate the holidays and wind up 2016 activities, they instead had a creative day with buckets of Cheerios, piles of toys and loads of art projects.

"We have a lot of regulars, who come on a regular basis," Hahn said of attendance to the Storytime events.

On Monday, big brothers and sisters came with the littles because school wasn't in session.

"We have the older ones who came to Storytime when they were little, and when there's no school, they come back to visit," Murphy said.

Tonight, local cello player and teacher John Dreyer and some of his students will perform seasonal music at the library. The event will take place 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and singing along will be encouraged.
