The free event was sponsored by Safeco Insurance and local independent agent, Tammy Wickham of Naught-Naught Insurance Agency, as part of Protecting What Matters, a new initiative of Safeco's Agent Giving Program that supports independent insurance agents' volunteerism. The program provides grants that allow them to partner with local organizations to host educational events that teach CPR, first aid and disaster preparedness in their communities.

Fulton residents and students were taught about checking fire alarms, fire safety and that firefighters carry an average weight of 50 pounds in gear. To train for this, they play dodge ball in their full gear.

"At Naught-Naught Agency, we're committed to helping individuals and families in the Fulton community protect what matters most," said Tammy Wickham, agent at the Naught-Naught Agency. "With the support of Safeco Insurance's Protecting What Matters program, I'm proud of our partnership with the South Callaway Volunteer Fire Department and of our ability to provide this important class to help our community stay safe."

South Callaway Volunteer Fire Department received a $2,000 donation from the Protecting What Matters program to support the purchase of smoke detectors to be distributing to homes in need in Fulton.
