William Woods University has hired a new director of content and publicity for its marketing and communications office, according to spokeswoman Mary Ann Beahon.

Tiffany Smith, of Boston, Massachusetts, joined the college Aug. 15 in a newly created position and is charged with telling the stories of the William Woods community, Beahon said.

Director of university relations for the past 18 years, Beahon has now entered into semi-retirement, taking on a new role as writer/editor. She also is president of the Fulton Rotary Club.

"My daughter says it doesn't seem like I'm working part-time because I'm always busy - Rotary, Mizzou alumni, my sorority, my church, etc.," Beahon said. "And lots of playing with the granddaughters (seven and three)."

Previously, Smith worked for Bentley University as director of content and chief storyteller for one of the nation's leading business schools. She coordinated several blogs and the university magazine, which won a 2016 silver CASE award for magazine publishing improvement.

She also previously worked for Care.com, serving as associate editor and senior associate editor. There she managed articles, blogs, infographics and videos for a site with more than 14,000 members. Before that, she was publishing project manager and development editor for West, where she wrote and edited business and legal articles and blog posts for one of the world's largest publishers, Thomson Reuters.

Originally from New York City, Smith started working for Time Inc. as an editorial intern for Time for Kids, a weekly news magazine, while a student at Fordham University. After earning a bachelor's degree in English, she served as an editorial assistant and eventually assistant editor for All You, a monthly women's service magazine published by Time Inc.

She has written freelance articles for numerous local and national publications, including the Boston Globe, MasterCard, Newton Living, STUFF, Biz Bash Media, ShopSmart, Relate and AOL Kids.
