School superintendent putting on the pecans

NEW BLOOMFIELD - School superintendent Dave Tramel is ready with the barbecue and bandages and is prepping for pie.
"I make a delicious pecan pie," he said of his entry in Saturday's pie auction to raise money for the New Bloomfield Education Foundation. "It's probably not suitable to print, but it's got chocolate chips and Irish whiskey, and I bake it on the grill."
Tramel said he's been baking pecan pies on the grill for years.
"My first attempt at professional pie making was about five, six years ago when a friend taught me," he said. "I put it in with the Thanksgiving turkey. It's pretty manly to bake pies on the grill; you have to burn yourself and have a small scar."
Whomever buys Tramel's pie Saturday night may have to go to church on Sunday.
"It's sinful," he said. " You gotta go to Confession just for thinking about eating it."
New Bloomfield's high school principal, Jeremy Davidson, may cheat on his auction pie, Tramel alleged.
"I think his wife is making it," Tramel said. "He needs to step it up."
Saturday's 7 p.m. pie auction will be part of the "Fundraiser for Kids" annual gathering to raise money for the New Bloomfield Education Foundation. Activities will be at the Heart of Nashville, 8285 State Road J. The public is invited to come for an evening of fun, food and music, and in turn, provide classroom grants to the New Bloomfield School District.
"That fundraiser is really nice," Tramel said. "It's very relaxed and it's a great cause."
Dinner will be served 5-7 p.m. and includes pulled pork or chicken strips, sides and dessert. The band, "Mother's Basement" will play from 6:30-10 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are $13.50 and $15 at the door. Tickets for children (under age 12) are $5, and tickets for the music only are also $5. For information call 573-694-1698 or 314-960-3721.
