Active shooter drill set for Friday at WWU

An active shooter drill - only a drill - will be all day Friday at William Woods University.
The morning sesson, starting at 8:45 a.m., will include classroom sessions indoors at Dulany Library.
Local law enforcement officers, paramedics and firefighters will be participating, with the most visable, active part of the drill starting about 1 p.m.
"Safety of our campus is paramount," said Mike Wills, director of Residential Life and Campus Safety at WWU. "Please note that there will be lots of emergency personnel and equipment around. Don't be alarmed or surprised."
Detectives from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office and Fulton Police Department will conduct the training, Wills said.
The training has a very wide scope, encompassing William Woods University's Emergency Operation Center personnel, Emergency Preparedness Coordinators and Residential Life staff.
Also participating will be personnel from the Fulton Police Department, the Callaway Sherriff's Department, the Fulton Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and the Callaway Emergency Operation Center.
On the day of the drill, every individual involved, including law enforcement officers, will be checked to ensure no weapons of any type are present in the training area.
"The training weapons used during the drill use compressed air for sound purposes only," Wills said.
William Woods University's Emergency Operation Center command staff will be present to observe and gain contextual knowledge for future training and preparedness.
Following the drill, a debriefing time will be held with all parties involved.
