The fourth in a series of shows featuring performances of various musical genres is coming next week from Capital City Productions.

"The Great American Songbook: An Evening of Dinner & Showtunes" will feature songs first heard on Broadway. The performance is scheduled for on Sept. 8.

A live combo will play and sing show tunes to celebrate the history of American musical theater.

"We started the series in March with the goal of bringing live music to Jefferson City in a way that was different than if you were just going to, say, see a band at a festival," Director Brandon Sankpill said. "Our first show was jazz tunes, in May we did Latin-inspired jazz, and in July we did greatest tunes of the 1960s, which was a huge hit."

Along with Sankpill doing vocals, the rest of the ensemble playing the Sept. 8 show includes Audra Sergel on piano/vocals, Tori Lee Stepanek on vocals, Derrick Enyard on drums and Jonathan Kies on bass.

"The first half will feature a lot of familiar tunes, and the second half of the show will be full of surprise guest artists," Sankpill said. "I don't want to give much away. You'll just have to come see."

This show comes with a meal provided from Argyle Catering Co., and for this performance patrons are also allowed to bring their favorite libation.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the meal service starts at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase by calling 573-681-9612 or at shop.capitalcityproductions.org.

"All the shows have been sold out," Sankpill said. "Our whole goal is to get different live musicians and expose our audience to different types of music."
