Theater and choir students from Jefferson City High School will perform their very own 1920s production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

"This musical is considered a tried and true all-time favorite," said Zach McKinney, drama coordinator at JCHS.

The show is about a small town girl who moves to New York and is determined to make a name for herself. On her journey to fame, she is robbed, finds refuge in a hotel that sells girls to China for slavery, and meets a guy who lectures her on why she should return back to her hometown.

McKinney explains that throughout the production the audience will be introduced to a lineup of interesting characters, and can look forward to hearing a lot of high-energy musical numbers.

"This is one production that has not been performed on stage by JCHS in a long time," McKinney said. "I'm looking forward to the students shining on stage and giving 100 percent. They have earned the right to be there."

The production will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Miller Performing Arts Center and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for general admission are $7, for students $5 and for children age 6 and under are free. On Wednesday and Thursday, patrons can purchase reserved seating for $10.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office prices in advance or at the door. At noon Saturday, there will be a matinee for senior citizens.
