Summit Villa Assisted Living's new 46-bed expansion is officially open for business.

The Holts Summit nursing home on Karen Drive hosted its first open house at The Timbers Assisted Living last week after over a year of construction.

The new facility, 38,500 square feet with 46 private suites, returns Summit Villa's capacity to 92 after the Guthrie family, which purchased the 20-year-old nursing home five years ago, made the original building's 46 rooms private rather than shared.

"We find that being family-owned in this industry is very unique but provides great comfort to potential residents and their families because they know that ownership is in the building every day," Admissions Coordinator Jason Guthrie said. "Throughout the process of developing The Timbers, we constantly asked ourselves, 'How do we redefine the norm from what the public perceives an assisted-living or nursing home to be?' In the short time the public has been able to tour The Timbers, the response and amazement by potential residents and families has confirmed we have built a home which residents of Mid-Missouri will gladly call their home."

Part of redefining that "norm" of long-term care meant placing special focus on The Timbers' dining and activities programs.

"At Summit Villa, we are already known for these two aspects of our home, but at The Timbers, they will be presented in a manner which today's seniors looking for assisted living will not only benefit from but truly enjoy," Guthrie said. "It feels like a small city with all of the amenities of home."

The Timbers offers a 27-seat chapel, multiple living rooms, a bistro, two courtyards, a library, a sunroom, an exercise area and a beauty shop.

The Timbers is open to new residents now and will begin moving residents in on Monday. The long-term care center's pricing structure is on an all-inclusive basis.
