Prep Baseball: Wright City 12, South Callaway 6

MOKANE, Mo. - The state-ranked Bulldogs managed only five hits and were roughed up by the Wildcats in Monday night's non-conference loss.

Wright City raced out to a quick lead by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. South Callaway (18-4) - ranked No. 9 in Class 3 - scrambled back with two runs in its half of the first and added one in the second, but the Wildcats opened up a 9-3 advantage by piling on five runs in the fifth.

The Bulldogs added single runs in the fourth and sixth, before Wright City tacked on three runs in the seventh to make it 12-5. South Callaway scored its last run in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman shortstop Peyton Leeper finished 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and scored twice for the Bulldogs, while senior designated hitter Dillon Stone was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Junior starter Graysan Peneston went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore second baseman Dylan Lepper finished 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Peneston lasted just 2 1/3 innings in being tagged with the loss. He surrendered nine runs - only three earned - on nine hits, walked two and struck out one. South Callaway was plagued by four errors.

The Bulldogs go to St. Elizabeth for a Show-Me Conference game at 5 p.m. Thursday.
