No. 3 Owls win third straight AMC golf title

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Junior David Houlding locked up individual honors with a 2-under 214 (74-67-73) to guide the third-ranked William Woods University Owls to their third straight American Midwest Conference men's golf title Tuesday at Dalhousie Golf Course.

William Woods compiled a 1-over 865 total (297-284-284) to clinch the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA national championships May 24-27 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. Central Baptist (Arkansas) College came in a distant second behind the Owls with a 906 and Columbia College was third with a 913.

Junior Matt Wells was right behind Houlding in second place for William Woods with a 1-under 215 (73-72-70), while junior Billy McKenzie took fourth with a 218 (76-71-71). Sophomore Jack Clarkson finished fifth with a 219 (75-74-70) and sophomore Alasdair McDougall tied for eighth with a 224 (75-75-74).

McKenzie was named AMC player of the year and was joined on the all-conference first team by Houlding and Clarkson. McDougall was selected to the second team and Wells received honorable-mention status.
