Fulton boys take title in own Don Dobson Invite

Sophomore Mason Gaines posted first-place finishes in both the 1,600 (4 minutes, 49 seconds) and 3,200 (10:31) meters to steer the Hornets to the championship of their annual Don Dobson Invitational on Friday.

In the girls’ division, sophomore Kate Pani was victorious in the long jump (15 feet, 3 inches) and took second in the 100 (:13.37) to pace the Lady Hornets to a third-place finish.

North Central Missouri Conference schools Mexico, Boonville and Moberly also competed in Friday’s meet.

Other event winners for the Fulton boys were junior Jared Eliuk in the 400 (:52.6), sophomore Gabe Luebbert in the 800 (2:14), senior Luke Lohmeyer in the pole vault (11-0), and sophomore David Fague in the high jump (5-1). The Hornets’ 1,600 relay of Lohmeyer, Eliuk, sophomore Ammod Davis and freshman Sam Schiltz triumphed in 3:45, while the 3,200 relay of Eliuk and freshmen Zechariah Schwinke, Quentin Ferguson and Canyon Milligan prevailed in 9:44.

Davis also came in second in both the 100 (:11.2) and 200 (:24.2), while junior Tanner Steffen was second in the 110 hurdles (:16.44) and third in the 300 hurdles (:43.9). Luebbert placed second in the 3,200 (11.29), senior Elisha Eniade took second in the discus (112-2), sophomore Nazir McClain came in second in the long jump (17-8), and the 800 relay of Davis, Schiltz, Eliuk and McClain finished second in 1:37.9.

Logging third-place finishes for the Hornets were Schwinke in the 1,600 (5:21), sophomore L’trevion Kemp-Vaughn in the triple jump (38-0), and sophomore Lecheyon Williams in the pole vault (9-6).

Senior Rachel Guse’ also came in second in both the 200 (:28.5) and long jump (14-10) for the Fulton girls, while senior Madi Tobias was second in the high jump (4-8). The Lady Hornets’ 400 relay of Guse’, Pani, junior Sierra Bickell and sophomore Adrea Shadbolt finished second in :54.7.

Senior Michaela Huff posted third-place finishes in the 1,600 (6:01) and pole vault (8-0), while Bickell took third in the 100 hurdles (:18.5), and freshman Grace Lewis was third in the 3,200 (15:37).

Fulton travels to Marshall for the NCMC championships at 3 p.m. next Friday.
