Ladybirds track team finishes second at Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CITY - Senior Erinn Bush and sophomore Reyna Schmauch each won events to guide the North Callaway Ladybirds track and field team to a second-place finish at the Montgomery County practice meet in Tuesday's season opener.

On the boys' side, senior Will Crawford tied for first place in the long jump at 10 feet, 6 inches as the Thunderbirds took sixth place.

Bush triumphed in the discus with a toss of 96-7 and came in second in the shot put at 31-3 3/4 as the North Callaway girls totalled 124 points. Schmauch prevailed in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 54.47 seconds.

Schmauch was also a member of the Ladybirds' 1,600 relay - joining freshman Heather Thurman and seniors Jaclyn McMurtry and Skylar Schmauch - that posted a first-place finish in 4:44.52.

Sophomore Kyla Bertschinger took second in the 400 (1:09.31) for North Callaway, while fellow sophomore Colleen Meffert came in third in both the 100 hurdles (:18.73) and 300 hurdles (:53.78). Senior Bethany Bloss placed third in the shot (30-11) and sophomore Nicole Emmons was third in the discus (89-7).

Sophomore Alyssa Rinehart also took third in the 3,200 (15:40.47), sophomore Kallie Jo Lehenbauer finished fourth in the long jump (14-1 1/4) and junior Nichole Kelly placed fourth in the high jump (4-6).

The Ladybirds' 400 relay - comprised of McMurtry, Bertschinger, freshman Kenzie Ausfahl and Lehenbauer - came in second in :58.31, while the 800 relay of Meffert, Ausfahl, senior Patri Eckert and Lehenbauer took third in 2:01.88. The 3,200 relay of freshman Christa Gilman, Rinehart, Skylar Schmauch and Reyna Schmauch finished third in 11:35.64.

Junior Levi Gilman delivered second-place outcomes in both the 110 hurdles (:16.5) and 300 hurdles (:44.4) as the North Callaway boys amassed 68 points. Senior Manzell Payne came in third in the high jump (5-6), junior Nick Douglas was third in the shot (35-7 3/4), and sophomore Skyler Barker finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (:48.59).

The Thunderbirds' 800 relay of Crawford, sophomore Davian Locastro, Gilman and senior Tyler Mattes took second in 1:41.76.

The Ladybirds and Thunderbirds host the North Callaway Invitational on their new track at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29.
