Horstman, No. 9 Bulldogs easily handle Jamestown

JAMESTOWN - South Callaway sophomore starter Landon Horstman threw five no-hit innings and struck out 10 as the state-ranked Bulldogs overpowered Jamestown in an 8-0 non-conference victory Tuesday night.

Senior catcher Cameron Richardson hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning for South Callaway (2-1), which made the most of just five hits and capitalized on four Jamestown errors. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 9 in Class 3 by the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association.

South Callaway put up a run in the first, broke through for four in the third, added two in the fifth and tacked on its final run on Richardson's homer in the seventh.

Horstman was masterful, issuing just one walk in his impressive win. Senior Dillon Stone - who started the game in right field - allowed one hit in two innings of relief, striking out three and walking three.

Freshman shortstop Peyton Leeper went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two stolen bases for the Bulldogs, while Richardson finished 1-for-4 with two runs batted in. Junior third baseman Graysan Peneston was also 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Horstman went 1-for-2, scored a run and had two steals.

Stone finished 0-for-4 but drove in a run and scored once.

South Callaway starts Show-Me Conference play at Linn - ranked No. 9 in Class 2 - at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 29.
