Barnett woman charged with assault of deputy

A 32-year-old Barnett woman was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly striking a Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputy with her car and then leading officers on a chase through Holts Summit and New Bloomfield where she was taken into custody.

Ashley Stone faces charges of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and felony resisting arrest. She was also wanted on a Morgan County felony warrant for narcotics violations.

At 5:30 p.m., Callaway County sheriff's deputies were watching Tow Pro, a local towing facility south of Holts Summit, after receiving information that Stone, who was wanted on felony charges in Morgan County, might be arriving to claim a vehicle.

When Stone arrived, deputies approached and ordered her from her vehicle. She refused and accelerated her car, striking a deputy with her vehicle. The deputy fired his weapon at Stone, striking Stone's car.

She led deputies on a vehicle chase through Holts Summit and New Bloomfield. Her vehicle became disabled on County Road 348 near New Bloomfield where she was taken into custody and treated on scene by Callaway County EMS for minor injuries.

She is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond at the Callaway County Jail, but she has a no-bond charge from Morgan County.

The deputy struck by Stone's vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Jefferson City hospital. He has since been released.

The deputy is currently on administrative leave, which is standard procedure when a firearm is discharged. He is expected to return to duty soon, officials said.

The Holts Summit Police Department, Cole County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation and pursuit.
