Wildcats stumble in loss to Blair Oaks

WARDSVILLE - The state-ranked New Bloomfield Wildcats managed just four hits and committed six errors in Monday night's 7-2 non-conference loss to the Blair Oaks Falcons.

New Bloomfield - ranked No. 3 in Class 2 in the Missouri Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll - slipped to 1-2 on the season.

Blair Oaks jumped on the Wildcats for six runs in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on its final run in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead. New Bloomfield produced both of its runs in the fifth.

Junior third baseman Tyler Martin went 2-for-3 with a run batted in for the Wildcats, while senior starter Tyler Fennewald and junior right fielder Robert Manning were both 1-for-3. Manning and sophomore center fielder Nick Hammann scored New Bloomfield's runs.

Fennewald suffered the complete-game loss, surrendering seven runs - only two earned - on nine hits. He struck out six and walked two.

The Wildcats travel to Pilot Grove for another non-conference matchup at 5 p.m. Thursday.
