Callaway County using new alert system

Callaway County Emergency Management is using a new system to warm residents of emergencies and weather alerts.

The system has an accessible website, which opens communication between emergency management officials and citizens before, during and after an emergency, according to a news release.

The system also alerts users via email, SMS text, voice calls and social media platforms in addition to keeping site surfers updated online. Some of the notifications include emergency alerts, FEMA-sourced emergency preparedness content and emergency shelter availability.

In order to receive the new alerts, users will have to sign up for the service at mo-callawaycounty.civicready.com and enter the correct contact information, including a valid address so alerts can be tailored to a location. Users will also be able to select what types of weather alerts and emergency alerts they receive.

If a user opts to receive calls from the notification system, the number will be listed as (573) 826-4257, which is not capable of receiving phone calls. However, anyone in need of assistance with the new system can contact Callaway County Emergency Management at (573) 592-2482.
