Lady Owls to make eighth straight NAIA appearance

The William Woods University Lady Owls can figure on eight.

William Woods - receiving the host bid - will make its eighth straight appearance in the NAIA Division I women's basketball national tournament when the No. 8 seed Lady Owls play No. 1 Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) in the first round at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Silverstein Eye Center Arena in Independence.

William Woods is 21-10 on the season after finishing fourth in the American Midwest Conference. The Lady Owls lost to Harris-Stowe State University 57-53 in the quarterfinals of the AMC postseason tournament March 3 in Fulton.

Our Lady of the Lake (29-2) is the tournament's top overall seed and is on a 29-game winning streak. The Lady Saints recently defeated Huston-Tillotson University 102-80 in the Red River Athletic Conference championship.

Meanwhile, William Woods senior guard Julia Wells was a second-team selection and senior forward Nia Lateju a third-team pick on the all-AMC women's team announced Tuesday night.

The William Woods men's squad ended its season with a 20-13 record after Monday night's 77-73 loss at Columbia College in the AMC title game. Senior guard Kevin House was named to the all-AMC second team, while junior forward Trey Mitchell was a third-team choice and junior guard Deon Pettigrew earned honorable-mention recognition.
