Bulldogs pummel Paris in consolation semifinals

STURGEON - Junior guard Blake Parker logged a game-high 21 points as the No. 6 seed South Callaway Bulldogs trampled the No. 7 Paris Coyotes 81-57 in the consolation semifinals of the 32nd-annual Sturgeon Tournament on Thursday night.

South Callaway (4-13) built a commanding 44-27 lead at halftime and capped off the dominating win by outscoring Paris 37-30 in the second half.

Parker was one of four players to finish in double figures for the Bulldogs. Sophomore guard Dylan Lepper also tallied 20 points, sophomore guard Kaden Helsel had 13 and freshman guard Peyton Leeper contributed 10.

"We had several guys contribute in scoring and play significant minutes," South Callaway head coach Tony Brandt said. "This is how we need to play to be successful.

"When we share the ball and are willing to make extra passes, everyone gets involved and we become tougher to guard. It was a great team effort and win for us."

Dylan Painter came up with 14 points to guide three players in double figures for the Coyotes. Jon Turner chipped in with 13 points and Brett Miller provided 11.

The Bulldogs faced No. 8 seed Community R-6 for fifth place late Saturday afternoon. Results were not available at press time.
