Blue Jays drop out of first-place tie in SLIAC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The Westminster College Blue Jays fell out of first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after Saturday's 76-72 loss to the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers.

Iowa Wesleyan (12-7, 8-4 SLIAC) is now in a two-way tie for first place in the SLIAC with MacMurray (Ill.) College.

Westminster (7-11, 7-5) led 39-38 at halftime.

Sophomore guard Tanner Cochran produced a game-high 16 points for the Blue Jays, who shot 41 percent (23-of-56) as a team. Sophomore forwards Nick Carlos and Romo Tabb added 13 points apiece.

Tabb collected a team-high seven rebounds to power Westminster to a 36-26 advantage on the boards.

Marquis Jones and Mitch Drey both came off the bench to lead Iowa Wesleyan with 15 points apiece. Brock Butler provided 14 points and Chris Fowler contributed 11 as the Tigers shot 43 percent (25-of-58) as a team.

Westminster plays a non-conference game at Central Bible (Mo.) College at 7 p.m. Monday.
