Lady Owls upend Missouri Baptist in AMC victory

Junior center Kennedy Volkart's team-high 16 points powered the William Woods University Lady Owls to the 66-57 American Midwest Conference triumph over the Missouri Baptist University Lady Spartans at Anderson Arena on Thursday night.

William Woods (15-6, 10-5 AMC) led 13-8 after one quarter and extended its advantage to 31-21 at halftime. Missouri Baptist (7-10, 6-8) outscored the Lady Owls 22-19 in the third quarter to cut William Woods' lead to 50-43.

William Woods outscored the Lady Spartans 16-14 in the fourth quarter to complete the season sweep.

Junior guard April Gebke added 11 points as the Lady Owls shot 47 percent (26-of-55) as a team.

Volkart collected a game-high eight rebounds to give William Woods a 38-32 edge on the boards.

Jerica Hawkins delivered a game-high 20 points to guide Missouri Baptist, which shot 38 percent (21-of-56) from the field. Kennedy Smith also produced 15 points.

The Lady Owls remain at home for an AMC contest against Harris-Stowe State University at 2 p.m. Saturday. William Woods turned back the Lady Hornets 56-50 on Dec. 5 in St. Louis.
