Clopton cruises to EMO win over Thunderbirds

KINGDOM CITY - The North Callaway Thunderbirds slid to 2-12 on the season and 1-4 in the Eastern Missouri Conference after Friday night's decisive 59-28 loss to the Clopton Hawks.

Senior guard Manzell Payne scored nine points to pace North Callaway, which was down 36-16 at halftime.

Luke Adams answered with a game-high 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, as Clopton (10-4, 5-0) pushed its winning streak to 10 games.

The Thunderbirds (6-4) - powered by freshman guard Khobi Kellerman's 14 points - prevailed in the junior varsity game 52-44. Sophomore guard Justin Popp also tallied 10 points.

North Callaway and Clopton will meet up again at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the 91st-annual Bowling Green Tournament. The Thunderbirds are the No. 6 seed and the Hawks are No. 3. The game will be played in the high school gym.
