Filing period closes for April 5 ballot

Filing for open city office positions and seats on the board of education for Callaway's four districts for the April ballot closed Tuesday, and new names made it on the ballot before the deadline.

But for several city councils and boards of aldermen, no contests were made.

Mokane's two incumbents Jo Belmont and Lori Lamons have refiled with no contest.

New Bloomfield incumbents also had no challengers. Rosemary Augustine of Ward 2, Paul Hilchen of Ward 1 and Mayor Michael Lowe have all refiled for re-election.

Incumbents in Holts Summit also had no challengers. Charles Chamberlin of Ward 2, Sharon Schlueter of Ward 1, Thomas Durham of Ward 2 and Mayor Landon Oxley have all refiled.

Allen Flood-Thompson, who was previously misidentified as Allen Flood, is the only challenger for Kingdom City's Board of Trustees. Incumbents Linda Van Engelenhoven, Darrel English and Donnie Thompson have refiled for their seats.

While incumbents Stephanie Leverett of Northward and Tom Henage of Southward were up for re-election; only Henage re-filed. Leverett announced at the Board of Aldermen's regular meeting Jan. 12, that she would not be running on the April ballot.

Since there was no contest, the seat will remain open unless a candidate applies as a write-in candidate at the County Clerk's office before 5 p.m. on March 25. If no candidates file as a write-in, the seat will remain open until the board appoints someone to fulfill the duties as a North Ward alderman. However, the board will still be able to hold regular meetings with a three-person quorum.

Four incumbents have filed for their seats on the Fulton City Council. Incumbents Mike West of Ward 1, Mary Rehklau of Ward 2, Lindsey Pace-Snook of Ward 3 and Steve Moore of Ward 4 have filed. Both Ward and Pace-Snook are up against their respective challengers Helen Jarvis and Beverly Gary. No other contest was made.

For the four boards of education in Callaway only one district received contest.

Incumbent Shawn Cockrum of New Bloomfield filed for re-election, but incumbent Susie Hinrichs did not refile. P. "Tod" Schattgen and Jonathan Morningstar have both filed to challenge for the seats.

At Fulton 58, no additional contest was made against incumbents Andy Bonderer and Rodney Latty. The challengers for April are: Alethea Dzurick, Verdis Lee Sr. and Timothy Clay Caswell.

Both Jeny Bondurant and Dan McMurtry, incumbents at North Callaway, have filed for re-election while Phyllis Barker, of Williamsburg, has filed to challenge.

Greg Kimminau and Stephanie Laney have filed to contest for the seats of incumbents Todd Mealy and Heidi Powers of the South Callaway Board of Education. Both Mealy and Powers have filed to retain their seats.
