Hail repair scam brings felony charges

The Missouri Attorney General's Office has brought multiple felony charges against a North Carolina man for fraudulent acts against Fulton area residents after their homes were damaged in a 2014 hail storm.

According to court documents, Jefferey Maier, acting in concert with Hailstrike Restoration, Inc., went personally or sent an agent door to door soliciting customers by offering free estimates on hail damage.

Thereafter, Maier is charged with accepting payments and promising to provide roof repairs, which were not provided. Maier did not respond to inquiries by customers or his own agents and left the state of Missouri.

Maier was charged with one count of stealing by deceit, four counts of unlawful merchandising practices and three counts of financial exploitation of the elderly, all of which are felony charges.

He had been paid $27,708.42 by four area homeowners, which he deposited into an account shortly before leaving the state.
