Filing deadline for April 5 election nears

Callawegians have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to get their names on the April 5 ballot.

The county's city municipalities differ in their requirements to run for city council, mayor and board of aldermen and questions concerning those requirements should be directed to the local city clerk's office. Contest updates are based on information acquired Friday.

In New Bloomfield incumbents Rosemary Augustine of Ward 2, Paul Hilchen of Ward 1 and Mayor Michael Lowe are up for re-election. All three have refiled for the April ballot, but no contest existed Friday.

Four seats on the Fulton City Council are open: incumbents Mike West of Ward 1, Mary Rehklau of Ward 2, Lindsey Pace-Snook of Ward 3 and Steve Moore of Ward 4. All four were planning to refile, but the city clerk was unavailable for comment for updates on their filing status and contest.

Both incumbents Jo Belmont and Lori Lamons, of Mokane, have refiled; and no challengers have filed.

In Auxvasse, Stephanie Leverett of Northward and Tom Henage of Southward are up for re-election. Leverett made the announcement Tuesday that she was not going to refile.

All incumbents in Holts Summit including Charles Chamberlin of Ward 2, Sharon Schlueter of Ward 1, Thomas Durham of Ward 2 and Mayor Landon Oxley have refiled; no challengers have filed.

Allen Flood is seeking to become a member of the Kingdom City Board of Trustees. He is up against current members Linda Van Engelenhoven, Darrell English and Donnie Thompson, who have all refiled.

School boards are also holding elections in April and several districts in Callaway County have contests on the ballot.

At North Callaway, incumbents Jenny Bondurant and Dan McMurtry are up for re-election and have refiled. Phyllis Barker, of Williamsburg, has filed for contest.

Incumbents Todd Mealy and Heidi Powers of South Callaway's board have refiled for re-election, but their seats are being contested by Greg Kimminau and Stephanie Laney.

At Fulton 58, Andy Bonderer and Rodney Latty are up for re-election and both have refiled. Their seats are being contested by Alethea Dzurick, Verdis Lee Sr. and Timothy Clay Caswell.

Efforts to reach the New Bloomfield School District were unsuccessful, however incumbents Shawn Cockrum and Susie Hinrichs are up for re-election. As of Jan. 3, Cockrum had refiled, but Hinrichs had not.

To run for a school board position, the applicant must be at least 24 years old, a minimum one-year resident of Missouri and not guilty of a felony or misdemeanor or be a registered as a sex offender. Each district's central office has more information on other requirements for applicants to run for the April ballot.

All city government and school offices will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
