MOKANE - The No. 7 seed North Callaway Ladybirds powered past the No. 6 Montgomery County Lady Wildcats 69-41 in the consolation semifinals Wednesday night at the South Callaway Invitational Tournament.
North Callaway (5-7) carried a 35-22 advantage into halftime and turned the game into a rout by outscoring Montgomery County 34-19 in the second half.
Freshman guard Kenzie Ausfahl knocked down a career-high 18 points to lead three players in double figures for the Ladybirds (5-7). Ausfahl's sister - senior guard Maddie - tallied her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while senior center Bethany Bloss was 5-of-5 from the field to finish with 11 points.
"The girls played really, really good basketball for the full 32 minutes at both ends of the court," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "Defensively, it was one (shot) and out for Montgomery and we did a great job of blocking out.
"Offensively, we made the extra pass to get a better shot."
Allie Schlueter answered with a game-high 19 points for the Lady Wildcats (3-8).
The Ladybirds square off against No. 5 seed New Haven for fifth place at 6 tonight in the high school gym.
