Lady Bulldogs hold off New Haven

MOKANE - The No. 4 seed South Callaway Lady Bulldogs were able to advance by outlasting the No. 5 New Haven Lady Shamrocks 43-41 in the first round of the South Callaway Invitational Tournament on Monday night.

South Callaway trailed 14-13 after one quarter, but outscored New Haven 9-8 in the second quarter to pull even at 22-all at the break. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Shamrocks 9-4 in the third quarter to go in front 31-26, then held on for the victory despite being outscored 15-12 in the fourth quarter.

Junior center Konnor Arrowood tallied 13 points to direct three players in double figures for South Callaway (8-3). Sophomore forward Adrian Mann and junior forward Nicole Horstman chipped in with 11 points apiece.

"The outcome of the game went our way, but what plagued us at the end was turnovers," Lady Bulldogs head coach Darren Humphrey said. "We made some ballhandling mistakes that we have to get corrected."

Lauren Gerlemann answered with 13 points to pace New Haven.

South Callaway now moves on to face top-seeded Owensville in the semifinals at 6 tonight in the high school gym.

"They're really, really aggressive," Humphrey said. "We can't make those kind of errors and expect to win. We have to get that under control."
