Owls suffer second straight AMC loss

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The University of Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx rallied behind a 17-6 run midway through the second half to hand the William Woods University Owls their second straight American Midwest Conference loss 96-91 on Tuesday night.

The setback dropped William Woods to 10-6 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. Lindenwood-Belleville improved to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the AMC.

The Owls trailed 39-38 at halftime but used a 15-4 run in the opening 7 minutes of the second half to build a nine-point advantage. Senior forward TaiRhe Turner's basket with 12:57 remaining gave William Woods a 58-49 lead.

The Lynx, though, countered with their decisive run to take control. A 3-pointer from Sean McGee with 8:50 to play put Lindenwood-Belleville in front to stay at 66-64.

Senior guard Kevin House knocked down a career-high 21 points to direct five players in double figures for the Owls, who shot 47 percent (34-of-73) as a team. House almost achieved a triple-double, also equalling career-highs with nine assists and eight rebounds.

Senior guard Austin Lowery followed with 19 points for William Woods, while junior forward Trey Mitchell delivered 15. Turner finished with 12 points and senior forward DJ Johnson contributed 11.

Mitchell also collected eight rebounds as the Owls were edged on the boards 46-45.

McGee - who made 5-of-8 3-pointers - registered a game-high 25 points to pace six players in double figures for the Lynx, who shot 43 percent (32-of-75) from the field. ShunQuez Stephens provided 21 points, Alex Stuart added 14, Jacobby Anderson had 12 and Nate Sims and Collin Mingo both contributed 10.

William Woods hosts AMC opponent Williams Baptist (Ark.) College at 7:30 tonight at Anderson Arena. The Eagles are coming off a 103-91 upset of third-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Tuesday night.
