DISH, KMIZ reach "multi-year agreement'

After several weeks of negotiations, a deal was announced Friday evening allowing KMIZ and its sister stations to be aired on DISH Satellite service.

In a statement from DISH officials, this is a "multi-year agreement" with News Press & Gazette Company, which owns the Networks of Mid-Missouri.

Based in Columbia, this includes KMIZ, the ABC affiliate for Mid-Missouri, along with Me-TV Network, My Network TV and KQFX, the Fox Network affiliate for Mid-Missouri.

In all, the deal covers 10 markets where News Press & Gazette has stations.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Curtis Varnes, Networks of Mid-Missouri general manager, said they were hopeful a deal was close to being completed earlier this week when extensions of the deadline to get a deal done were announced. He said the main reason the negotiations took time was for News Press & Gazette to get fair market rates from DISH to carry their stations.

DISH officials said they had successfully negotiated agreements representing hundreds of stations in recent months that benefit all parties.
