Owls baseball team drops second straight

POINT LOOKOUT - The College of the Ozarks Bobcats broke a 2-all tie by manufacturing the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand the William Woods University Owls their second straight loss 3-2 Thursday afternoon.

William Woods (7-6) owned a 2-0 lead, but College of the Ozarks rallied for two runs in the eighth to pull even.

Senior first baseman Jordan Dey drove in both of the Owls' runs with a groundout in the first and a single in the sixth.

Junior second baseman Ryan Phillips went 2-for-4 as William Woods managed just five hits. Senior left fielder Larry Price was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored, while junior designated hitter Jansen Smith finished 1-for-3 with a double and Dey went 1-for-4.

Junior Justin Landewee - pitching a shaky ninth in relief of senior starter Caleb Bounds - was tagged with the loss for the Owls. Landewee allowed an earned run on two hits, committed one of William Woods' three errors, threw a wild pitch, struck out one and issued a walk.

Bounds surrendered two earned runs on just three hits in 7 2/3 innings, struck out five and walked two.

The Owls finally play their home opener today with a doubleheader starting at noon against Northwestern (Iowa) College. William Woods continues its weekend homestand with a noon doubleheader against Ashford (Iowa) University on Sunday.
