Fulton man charged after high-speed chase

Driver faces assault, drug, weapons charges

A Fulton man was arrested and charged Wednesday night after a high-speed chase that involved multiple law enforcement agencies and that began in Fulton, extended into western Callaway County and ended in Fulton.

The driver, Douglass L. Bowen of Fulton, was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault, careless and imprudent driving, driving while intoxicated (drugs), driving while revoked, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon, and numerous other traffic offenses.

At 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, Fulton police attempted to stop a vehicle for what appeared to be impaired driving near Fourth and Pioneer streets. Police said Bowen, the driver of the vehicle, failed to stop, which resulted in a high-speed chase throughout the city and western Callaway County that included officers from the Fulton Police Department, Callaway County Sheriff's Department, Missouri Highway Patrol and Missouri Conservation Department.

Authorities said Bowen eventually returned to the city limits of Fulton, where the pursuit ended in the 600 block of Bluff Street.

Bowen was taken to Callaway County Jail, and authorities discovered that he had concealed on his body controlled substances, which led to further charges of possession of a controlled substance inside a correctional facility and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Bowen is being held in custody with no bond. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are possible.
