Lady Bulldogs falter in SMC loss to Fatima

MOKANE - The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs were unable to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit in Friday night's 48-39 Show-Me Conference loss to the Fatima Lady Comets.

South Callaway (16-6) fell behind 11-7 after one quarter and trailed 26-15 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs were then outscored by Fatima 17-12 in the third quarter as their deficit grew to 43-27.

"I really felt as though Fatima set the tempo from the start of the game," South Callaway head coach Darren Humphrey said. "We rushed ourselves into making some careless turnovers.

"With a team like Fatima, it is essential that you take them out of their rhythm and we didn't get that accomplished quickly enough."

Junior center Konnor Arrowood connected for 19 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore forward Adrian Mann and sophomore guard Ashley Potter chipped in with eight points apiece.

Sammy Bunch countered with a game-high 23 points for the Lady Comets, who were 12-of-15 from the free-throw line. Sydney Neuner added 10 points.

"I thought we played Fatima well in the second half by slowing down the pace of the game," Humphrey said. "Sammy Bunch is a tremendous athlete and Adrian holding her to 23 points, nine of which came from the free-throw line, may not look like a success up front, but it is in the big picture."

South Callaway played at Newburg on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. The Lady Bulldogs end the regular season with a home varsity game against Bourbon at 5 p.m. Monday.
