Pittmon, Rueter to enter Fulton Wall of Fame

Fulton High School is drawing from the 1990s for its next two Wall of Fame members.

Stacy Pittmon (class of 1991) and Matt Rueter (class of 1997) will be inducted into Fulton's select athletic group tonight in a ceremony during the Hornets' and Lady Hornets' basketball games against Southern Boone at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Pittmon starred in football, basketball and track at Fulton. He was a running back and linebacker on the football team, played guard in basketball and competed in the shot put and discus in track.

Pittmon was a three-year varsity letterwinner and two-time captain with the Hornets football team, a two-time all-conference selection and also an all-state pick. He went on to play football at Gavilan College and was named the team's newcomer of the year in 1992, then was a two-year varsity letterwinner at then-Southwest Missouri State in Springfield.

Rueter was a standout in basketball and also played baseball at Fulton. He was a first-team all-district basketball choice in 1994, a second-team all-state and all-North Central Missouri Conference selection in 1995.

Rueter helped guide the Hornets to a third-place finish in Class 3A in 1996, earning first-team all-state and all-NCMC acclaim. He followed that up with more first-team all-state and all-NCMC recognition in 1997 and was a McDonald's All-American nominee.

Rueter went on to play college basketball at Missouri State and was part of the Bears' Sweet 16 team in 1999. He was a first-team Missouri Valley Conference all-academic selection in 2000 and 2001, and in 2001 he won the team's Guy Thompson Award for outstanding senior athlete and was a second-team all-MVC pick.

Rueter played professionally in Australia for the Knox Raiders and was named the 2002 most valuable player in the South East Australian Basketball League. He was also a member of the Melbourne Tigers' NBL championship team.

Fulton will open with junior varsity girls' and boys' games today against Southern Boone at 4 and 5:15 p.m., respectively. The varsity girls' contest will be played at 6:45, followed by the Wall of Fame ceremony at 8 and the varsity boys' game is scheduled to tip off at 8:20.
