Lady Blue Jays push winning streak to 11

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The red-hot Westminster College Lady Blue Jays extended their sizzling win streak to 11 games by trouncing the Blackburn College Lady Beavers 71-51 in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night.

Westminster College (17-4, 13-2 SLIAC) was able to convert 33 points off Blackburn College's 36 turnovers.

The Lady Blue Jays are in first place in the SLIAC and hold a two-game lead over Iowa Wesleyan.

Westminster jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and owned a 36-27 advantage at halftime. The Lady Blue Jays outscored Blackburn 18-14 in the third quarter to widen their lead to 54-41.

Junior forward Krista Armontrout directed Westminster with 14 points, senior guard Kasey Gatson delivered 13 and junior guard Andrea Zalis and freshman forward Mirrakohl Johnson added 12 apiece. The Lady Blue Jays shot 38 percent (23-of-60) as a team.

Senior guard Mackenzie Haddox collected a team-high seven rebounds as Westminster was outrebounded 41-31.

Aleisha Stiltner paced Blackburn (2-20, 2-13) with a game-high 20 points and Danique Smith came up with 10. The Lady Beavers shot just 33 percent (15-of-45) from the field.

Westminster hosts Webster University in a SLIAC game at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Blue Jays downed the Lady Gorloks 68-58 on Jan. 13 in Webster Groves.
