Blue Jays stumble vs. Blackburn in SLIAC loss

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Blackburn College Beavers dominated the Westminster College Blue Jays 79-54 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.

The loss left Westminster College (11-11, 8-7 SLIAC) in a tie with Iowa Wesleyan University for second place in the conference, behind co-leaders Greenville (Ill.) College and MacMurray (Ill.) College.

The Blue Jays trailed 38-28 at halftime Wednesday night.

Sophomore forward Nick Carlos finished with a team-high nine points as Westminster shot 34 percent (21-of-61) from the field. The Blue Jays had four players with four rebounds apiece, but they were dominated 45-31 on the boards.

Chris Davis directed Blackburn College (9-13, 8-7) with a game-high 16 points, while Willie Orange, Jake Maestranzi and Jordan McMillen provided 12 apiece. The Beavers shot 45 percent (28-of-62) as a team.

Westminster hosts SLIAC foe Webster University at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Jays turned back the Gorloks 67-61 on Jan. 13 in Webster Groves.
