Second-quarter lapse sinks Thunderbirds

KINGDOM CITY - The North Callaway Thunderbirds lost an Eastern Missouri Conference game to the Wright City Wildcats 59-49 on Tuesday night.

North Callaway (2-17, 1-6 EMO) led 12-8 after the first quarter, but endured a 7-minute scoreless stretch in the second quarter and trailed 26-16 at halftime. Wright City (6-14, 4-4) outscored the Thunderbirds 21-14 in the third quarter to open up a 47-30 advantage.

Sophomore guard Coy Danison paced North Callaway with 15 points and sophomore forward Tanner Pezold came up with 12.

Trey Saddler directed the Wildcats with a game-high 21 points, Kyle Christopher tallied 17 and Devan Holmes added 10.

North Callaway (11-7) won the junior varsity game 53-23. Freshman guard Khobi Kellerman and sophomore guard Justin Popp shared team scoring honors with 11 points apiece.

North Callway hosts Silex in EMO play at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
