Man arrested for vehicle theft

A Montgomery City man was arrested for stealing a motor vehicle registered in Callaway County Monday.

Harley Walls, 21, was charged with two counts of stealing a motor vehicle and one count of tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to a release from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, the sheriff's offices of Callaway County and Audrain County worked with the Auxvasse Police Department to investigate the theft of two vehicles near Auxvasse on Feb. 3. That same day, a vehicle previously reported stolen in Audrain County was recovered abandoned in Auxvasse.

Walls was located in St. Peters, Mo. in possession of one of the stolen Callaway vehicles on Feb. 8, where he was arrested and transported to the Callaway County Jail where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be forthcoming in both Callaway and Audrain counties.
