Lady Hornets fall to Fatima for third place at Southern Boone

ASHLAND - Sammy Bunch tormented the Fulton Lady Hornets again.

Bunch supplied a game-high 23 points to power the No. 3 seed Fatima Lady Comets to a 56-41 victory over No. 4 Fulton in the third-place game of the Southern Boone Classic on Saturday.

In Fatima's 77-57 romp over the Lady Hornets on Jan. 12 at the California Tournament, Bunch lit up Fulton for 41 points.

The Lady Hornets (11-7) jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter Saturday and went into halftime with a 22-19 advantage. The Lady Comets, though, outscored Fulton 17-9 in the third quarter to take a 36-31 lead and secured the win by outscoring the Lady Hornets 20-10 in the fourth quarter.

"We came out really strong in the first half and put pressure on their shooters," Fulton head coach TJ Quick said. "I thought we were in their face a lot, but we got away from that in the second half. We might have been gassed, but if you let their shooters open, they are going to make shots."

Senior guard Sloane Totta paced the Lady Hornets with 21 points and six steals, while senior guard Rachel Gusé added nine points and collected five rebounds.

Morgan Berhorst added 10 points for Fatima.

Fulton hosts Marshall in a North Central Missouri Conference game at 6 p.m. Monday at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets turned back the Lady Owls 50-43 on Dec. 10 at Marshall.
