Bulldogs collect first SMC victory

RUSSELLVILLE - The South Callaway Bulldogs logged their first Show-Me Conference win of the season Tuesday night, outscoring the Russellville Indians by a combined 56-30 in the second and third quarters in an 82-52 romp.

The victory was the third in a row for South Callaway (6-13, 1-5 SMC), which broke a 14-all tie after the first quarter and outscored Russellville 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 42-28 halftime lead. The Bulldogs pulled away by outscoring the Indians 28-16 in the third quarter, widening their advantage to 70-44.

Sophomore guard Kaden Helsel delivered a game-high 29 points to guide three players in double figures for South Callaway. Senior guard Logan Taylor provided 20 points and junior guard Blake Parker tallied 12.

Tyler Voss finished with 20 points to lead Russellville. Dylan Henderson followed with 16 points and Seth Kuda had 10.

The Bulldogs (5-10) - fueled by 16 points apiece from junior guard Braeden Sconce and freshman guard Peyton Leeper - rolled to a 58-25 win in the junior varsity game.

South Callaway goes to Tuscumbia for an SMC matchup at 5 p.m. today.
