Hornet wrestlers roll to NCMC title

MARSHALL - The state-ranked Fulton Hornets wrestling team ended the regular season with another flawless run to a repeat.

Fulton triumphed in eight weight classes by pin and the Hornets clinched their second straight North Central Missouri Conference championship by demolishing Marshall 64-6 on Tuesday night.

Fulton completed the regular season with a 23-1 dual record and a perfect 6-0 NCMC mark for the second year in a row. The Hornets, meanwhile, slipped a spot to No. 3 in Class 2 by missouriwrestling.com, swapping places with Smithville after the Warriors won the team title at the Odessa Invitational on Saturday and Fulton took second.

Defending Class 2 champion Oak Grove remains ranked No. 1.

•138: freshman Julian Schoening (F) won by 13-10 decision over Eli Jackson (M); 145: senior Josh McClure (F) won by 11-0 major decision over Aaron Sims (M); 152: senior Trenton Clines (F) pinned Kyle Gann (M) in 1:44; 160: senior Andy Baysinger (F) pinned Justin Foltz (M) in :41;

•170: junior Luke Berrey (F) won by 7-3 decision over Ryan Henderson (M); 182: sophomore Colton Bristol (F) pinned Josh Osiena (M) in 3:53; 195: senior Kobe Kaminski (F) won by 9-6 decision over Ramon Herrera (M); 220: senior Zach Benner (F) pinned Tielor Bradshaw (M) in :13; 285: senior Clayton Bristol (F) pinned Austin David (M) in :37.

The Hornets will have nine days to prepare for the District 2 championships, scheduled Feb. 12-13 at John Burroughs High School in St. Louis.
