NEW BLOOMFIELD - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats avenged their blowout loss to South Callaway in the South Callaway Tournament by beating the Lady Bulldogs in a close Show-Me Conference game 60-57 on Monday night.

New Bloomfield (14-6, 5-0 SMC) lost to South Callaway (13-5) 68-42 in the third-place game of the South Callaway Tournament on Jan. 16.

"We just played with so much more energy than we did when we played them the first time," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "On offense, we tried to isolate (junior guard) Baylee Garrett and let her take the ball to the hole, and she did an excellent job."

Garrett directed the Lady Wildcats with 19 points and sophomore guard Madi Craighead tallied 11. Freshman center Samantha Haas scored eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Sophomore forward Adrian Mann logged a game-high 28 points for South Callaway, which had its five-game winning streak halted. The Lady Bulldogs were coming off a 46-43 victory over Community R-6 in the title game of the Sturgeon Tournament last Friday night.

"We played a really good first quarter and I thought we played really well in the second half," Brett Craighead said. "Our defense was really good the whole game; I'm proud of the way we played against them.

"We lost to them by almost 30 the last time we played them; it was just a good win for us."

New Bloomfield also won the junior varsity game 29-12. Haley Berhorst finished with a team-high 12 points.

The Lady Wildcats host Tuscumbia in a SMC matchup at 6 p.m. Thursday.
