Bulldogs’ winning baseball streak ends at 13

COLUMBIA, Mo. — A scarcity of offense snuffed out the state-ranked South Callaway Bulldogs’ spectacular surge.

South Callaway — ranked No. 9 in Class 3 — managed only three hits and its 13-game winning streak came to an end in a 2-0 non-conference loss to Father Tolton on Thursday night.

The Trailblazers tallied single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to stop a remarkable run for the Bulldogs (14-2).

Sophomore second baseman Dylan Lepper went 2-for-3 with singles in the second and seventh innings for South Callaway. Freshman shortstop Peyton Leeper was 1-for-3 with a one-out triple in the sixth.

Sophomore starter Kaden Helsel suffered the complete-game loss for the Bulldogs. Helsel gave up two runs — one earned — on seven hits, struck out seven and walked none.

South Callaway will seek to get back on track when it returns home for a non-conference clash with Southern Boone at 5 p.m. today.
