Eugene shuts down Wildcats’ six-game win streak

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — The New Bloomfield Wildcats were limited to only three hits and had their six-game winning streak come to a halt in a 2-0 Show-Me Conference loss to Eugene on Tuesday night.

Eugene broke a scoreless tie by putting up both of its runs in the top of the sixth inning to hand New Bloomfield its first SMC loss. The Wildcats are now 10-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Senior shortstop Grant Nichols, senior starter Clay Jensen and senior third baseman Tyler Fennewald opened the bottom of the first with three straight singles for New Bloomfield, but that would turn out to be all of the Wildcats’ offense. New Bloomfield drew six walks, but left seven runners on base.

Jensen went the distance in taking the loss, allowing the two earned runs on just six hits. He struck out six and issued a walk.

The Wildcats remain at home for an SMC matchup against Tuscumbia at 5 p.m. today. New Bloomfield roughed up the Lions 16-1 on April 9 at Jamestown.
