Ladybirds finish second in own North Callaway Invite

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. — Sophomore Reyna Schmauch was victorious in both the 1,600 (5 minutes, 43.74 seconds) and 3,200 (12:26.46) meters to steer the Ladybirds to a second-place finish in their own North Callaway Thunderbird Invitational on Tuesday night.

In the boys’ division, junior Levi Gilman won the 110 hurdles (:16.37), senior Manzell Payne triumphed in the long jump (19-1/2), and senior Will Crawford took first in the pole vault (11 feet) as North Callaway came in third overall.

Senior Erinn Bush prevailed in the shot put (34-2) and also finished third in the discus (96-0) as the Ladybirds generated 131 points. Senior Bethany Bloss placed second behind Bush in the shot (33-9), while sophomore Kallie Jo Lehenbauer came in second in the long jump (15-6) and third in the 100 hurdles (:18.45).

North Callaway’s 1,600 relay of Reyna Schmauch, senior Skylar Schmauch, sophomore Kyla Bertschinger and junior Jaclyn McMurtry took second in 4:36.55. The 800 relay of freshman Mackenzie Ausfahl, Lehenbauer, junior Colleen Meffert and McMurtry came in third in 1:58.71.

Bertschinger also placed third in the 400 (1:06.90), Meffert finished third in the 300 hurdles (:54.41), and Ausfahl took third in the triple jump (28-7 1/2). McMurtry came in fourth in the 200 (:29.38), Skylar Schmauch was fourth in the 400 (1:07.30), sophomore Aren Schleiermacher placed fourth in the pole vault (6-6), sophomore Nicole Emmons took fourth in the discus (88-5), and sophomore Alyssa Moore and junior Nichole Kelly tied for fourth in the high jump (4-2).

Gilman also took second in the 300 hurdles in :44.44 as the Thunderbirds collected 106 points. He and Crawford were joined by sophomores Skyler Barker and Davian Locastro in finishing second in the 800 relay (1:40.58) and fourth in the 400 relay (:48.63).

Payne placed second in the triple jump (39-11 3/4), while freshman Khobi Kellerman came in second in the 1,600 (5:18.15). Barker took third in the 110 hurdles (:17.97), sophomore Jessie Brown was third (39-2 1/2) in the shot and junior Nicholas Douglas followed in fourth (37-9), while junior Max Ihler came in third in the discus (104-8).

Senior Joseph Allen finished fourth in the 200 (:25.57) as the Missouri School for the Deaf boys placed seventh as a team with 26 points. Allen also combined with senior Terrell Owens and juniors Ste’Quan Scott and Marcus Smith to take third in the 800 relay in 1:41.08.

Junior Elizabeth Harrison came in third in the high jump (4-4) to pace the MSD girls to an eighth-place finish with 16 points.

Bowling Green swept the boys’ and girls’ team titles with 187 and 169 points, respectively.

MSD competes at the Belle Invitational at 4:30 p.m. today, then competes along with North Callaway at the Montgomery County Invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
