North Callaway girls, boys both take second at MSD

The Ladybirds and Thunderbirds pulled off a pair of second-place finishes at the 28th-annual Missouri School for the Deaf Invitational on Thursday.

Sophomore Reyna Schmauch prevailed in both the 800 (2 minutes, 42.58 seconds) and 1,600 (5:54.92) meters as the North Callaway girls compiled 85 points. Senior Manzell Payne won both the triple jump (37 feet, 4 3/4 inches) and high jump (5-4), and took third in the long jump (18-9 3/4) as the North Callaway boys totalled 79 points.

The Ladybirds' 800 relay of juniors Jaclyn McMurtry and Colleen Meffert, freshman Mackenzie Ausfahl and sophomore Kallie Jo Lehenbauer triumphed in 2:01.46. The 1,600 relay of senior Skylar Schmauch, McMurtry, Reyna Schmauch and Meffert came in second in 4:38.20, while the 800 sprint medley relay of sophomore Kyla Bertschinger, Ausfahl, sophomore Alyssa Moore and freshman Heather Thurman placed second in 2:07.54.

Bertschinger also finished second in the 400 (1:07.89), while Lehenbauer came in fourth in the 100 hurdles (:18.74). McMurtry took fourth in the 200 (:30.51), Meffert was fourth in the 300 hurdles (:56.93), and senior Erinn Bush placed fourth in the shot put (31-9).

North Callaway's 3,200 relay of sophomores Madison Davis and Alyssa Rinehart, Reyna Schmauch and Skylar Schmauch finished fourth in 11:30.53.

Junior Levi Gilman was also victorious in the 110 hurdles (:16.94) and 300 hurdles (:45.71) for the Thunderbirds. Gilman was part of the 800 relay - joining sophomore Skyler Barker, senior Will Crawford and sophomore Davian Locastro - that finished second in 1:41.67.

Crawford took fourth in the pole vault (10-6) and teamed with Gilman, Barker and Locastro again in the 400 relay to finish fourth in :48.87.

Junior Elizabeth Harrison placed third in the long jump (14-8) as the MSD girls finished 15th with eight points. The MSD boys came in 14th with one point.

Van-Far secured the boys' team title with 119 points and Glasgow secured the girls' championship with 100.

The Ladybirds and Thunderbirds host their own North Callaway Invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday. MSD will compete in the meet.
